GCYSC Referee Information

If you are interested in refereeing for the Fall season, please send an email to the Club Referee Assignor. Include in the email: your name, address, cell and home phone numbers, age, referee grade, and years of refereeing experience.

At Gulf Coast Youth Soccer Club our referees are very important to us.  Without the volunteers giving their time to help with our kids, we would not be able to exist.  Next time you see a referee, take the time to thank them for their time.

Do you know what it takes to become a referee?  The first year referees are required to attend a 24 hour long referee clinic and pass a test over the Laws of the Game.  After the first year, each referee must attend a four hour refresher clinic and pass a test over the Laws of the Game.  Do you know all of the Laws (or Rules) of the Game?  There are always situations that can occur that will confuse even the most experienced referees.  Also, there are times when the referee or his assistant referees are not in the best location to see the fouls that you may see.  Next time you are at a soccer game, put yourself in the referees shoes.  In fact, we are always in need of new referees and would be glad to have you as a referee.

Referee Representatives

All recreational U7 teams and up must provide one referee representative for the Fall Season. All competitive teams (Division II and S2) must provide three referee representatives, one of which must be an adult (18 and over) for the Fall Season. Teams failing to provide their referee representatives will not be allowed to advance to playoffs if otherwise eligible. Forms should be truned into the Referee Assignor.

The following standards have been set for the playing season regarding Referee Representatives.

All Recreation Teams must have at least (1) Referee Representative who must officiate 5 games per team they represent during the Fall Season.

All Division II teams must have (3) Referee Representatives who must each officiate 5 games per team they represent.

Failure to meet the required 5 games per team will cause these teams to forfeit their right to advance, and the coaches to possibly lose their coaching privileges for next season.

Gulf Coast follows a very strict policy in this matter and no team will be allowed to advance unless ALL of their representatives have done the required amount of games, excluding extenuating circumstances such as injury to the referee.

STYSA Modified Laws

Youth games must be played with modifications to the FIFA Laws of the Game to match the level of ability and knowledge of the players.  STYSA has made modifications to the FIFA laws to match the various ages of play. Become familiar with these modifications so you can enforce the laws appropriate for the age you are refereeing.
